Practice 'accumulating' positive feelings as they come up, and then 'pour' this accumulated reservoir of feeling into neutral or negtive feelings when they arise. This practice has a direct healing effect, counteracting stress, releasing and opening up the entanglements of negativity. It can be deepened through personal instruction.
Image of Knowledge
Visualize as intense colors the positive, negative, or neutral feeling that accompanies each sensory experience. Sight is associated with white, hearing with green, smell with yellow, taste with red, and touch with blue. 'Feed' the energy of the feeling into color, as in Exercise 35; you can also combine that exercise with this one. With continued practice, feelings may grow fluid, no longer arising in expected ways.
Bondage of Time
Entertain a positive or negative feeling and let it intensify. Explore various ways of doing this; for example, 'adding in' images, sound, or thoughts. Contact not only the 'content' of the feeling, but also its specific qualities of sharpness, orientation, and aliveness. When the feeling is fully energized, 'exchange' it without hesitation for its opposite. If necessary, spend some time building up this new feeling. Repeat this exercise many times at different tempos. You can also apply it in daily life to transform negative feelings and emotions. Note: Personal instruction can help deepen this exercise.
Seeing Through Light
Investigate the 'background' aspect of feelings, linked more to mood or attitude than specific content. How do feelings relate to awareness as the 'field' for thought? Conduct this investigation both in the morning and the evening, noticing the differences. Continue with the practice even if you are not sure what you are looking for. Continued practice can contact the intuitive internal mind, bringing greater clarity and calm.
